About us

The organic farm

Biofattoria L’Upupa is a small family-run organic farm at Podere Olivello, in the heart of the Val d’Orcia, between the hills of Montalcino and the Crete Senesi.

The farm was founded in the 1940s by grandparents Niccolò and Giotto, and since 2017 it has been the granddaughter who carries on the tradition: today Andrea and her mother Paola welcome guests as friends, among the fields, the animals and home cooking.

We farm following the principles of organic agriculture, without synthetic chemicals, protecting biodiversity as a heritage to pass on. Legumes, cereals and ancient grains, olive groves and vegetables grow with the rhythm of the seasons, in a landscape recognised as a World Heritage Site.

Our philosophy

We believe a farm is not only a place of production, but a place of relationship: with the land, with the animals, with the people who visit. That is why the estate is at once a farm, a farm stay, a restaurant, an educational farm and a place for animal-assisted activities.

The synergic garden and ancient grains

In our synergic garden, vegetables, herbs and flowers grow together, nourishing the soil naturally. In the fields we grow spelt, cereals and ancient grains, while our olive groves give us an extra-virgin oil with a bold character. Everything we harvest returns to the plate at the restaurant and to our products.
